From July 1st to 15th, 2009, the IDEO organized a workshop on Islam and inter-religious dialogue for a group of 18 English speaking Dominican friars from 8 different countries: South Africa, the United States, Nigeria, India, Taiwan, Germany, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Every day, the program offered guided visits to Islamic or Christians sites, lectures given by scholars, in their areas of specialization, and debates were also arranged with Egyptian friends on the topics. It has been a very exciting and joyful experience with great moments like the visit to the Fatimid district of Cairo with Gamal al-Ghitany, one of the most famous Egyptian writers, as well as the meeting with the Coptic Catholic patriarch Antonios Naguib. For the IDEO, it has been as well a great opportunity to work as a team. This workshop was supported by the Bradley Foundation (Milwaukee, Wisconsin). We might consider to offer this program again in 2011, in French. |
