Jean Druel est français et vit au Caire.

Après un Master de théologie et de patristique copte (L’expérience spirituelle de saint Pachôme…Institut catholique de Paris, 2002), il a suivi une formation de professeur d’arabe à l’Université américaine (Master obtenu en 2006, Emphatic sounds in educated Cairene Arabic).

En 2012, il a soutenu sa thèse de doctorat en histoire de la grammaire arabe à l’Université de Nimègue, aux Pays-Bas, sous la direction du Pr. Kees Versteegh (Numerals in Arabic grammatical theory).

Il a dirigé le Projet des 200 (2013‒2016), projet dont le but était la contextualisation historique des œuvres de 200 auteurs du patrimoine arabo-musulman. Il a ensuite dirigé l’Idéo de 2014 à 2020. Il travaille actuellement à l’étude d’un manuscrit inédit du Kitāb de Sībawayh (180/796?).
