The Religious Other in Qur’anic Tafsīr

The volume entitled “The Religious Other in Qur’anic Tafsīr” addresses representations of religious otherness in the Qur’an and its commentaries (tafsīr). This issue is the result of the Idéo and OIB study days, and adopts an interdisciplinary approach combining theology, history, translation studies, philology, as well as art history. Contributions include innovative analyses of biblical figures, modern translations of the Qur’an, and perspectives on the theological foundations of interfaith relations. The book highlights the tensions between pluralism and the assertion of the superiority of Islam, while emphasising the contextual and comparative influences in Qur’anic exegesis.
